WineRev’s Good and Goofy Notes
Watch for WineRev’s G&G notes in the comments to see what others went through, struggled with, and surmounted in the past. His G&G comments are mini Good News Roundups. You can find all his comments here, even today’s, once he posts it. Tech Tip: You can search for >>> in Roundups to quickly find his comments.
WineRev, last Sunday:
Good Sunday Morning and welcome to the Slammer Countdown….which has reached the “Less than 24 Hours” stage. Fill up you coffee, tea, mocha-cocoa or mimosa, grab a fistful of darts and load your throwing sling with bags of mud. Yep, this is it! Steve-O Eve.
You see, after you put in your Gnuville Breakfast Brunch order for baked goods, eggs the way you like them or whatever you zap in the microwave to start your Sunday morning, the herd of Gnusies are funneled outside on our way to the High Five Lounge. There, set up in the side yard, is a hairy, sloppy dressed, shaggy effigy of …… Steve “Just about Incarcerated” Bannon! So YES, you get to throw darts at that figure. Yes, water balloons are in Excellent taste. Yes, slinging the oh so splatter-able bags of mud in your throwing sling (David vs. Goliath style) are oh so satisfying. Tomorrow…...he goes (cue sound effect: slamming metal door…...)
Well after that gratifying exercize, c’mon in, and first observe the price of admission to the Lounge by acting out the Name of Today’s Lounge. Now THAT was invigorating! So now find a comfy seat, cozy couch, snuggy nook, wonderful wingback, or restful recliner, nibble away at your Fast Breaking Break fast goodies, and have a look at the Good News Round up between sips on your beverage. 2thanks has us open and assembled, the Wi- is Fi-ing, and there are stories, comments, recs, asks, answers, snorts, chuckles and digressions aching to be wrung through the Wringer of Pixels. So thank you, 2thanks, and let’s have a Sunday!
Science
jck, member of Daily Kos:
An ant that selectively amputates the infected limbs of wounded sisters
Saving lives through surgery is no longer exclusive to humans. In a study publishing July 2 in the journal Current Biology, scientists detail how Florida carpenter ants, a common, brown species native to its namesake, selectively treat the wounded limbs of fellow nestmates -- either by wound cleaning or amputation. When experimentally testing the effectiveness of these "treatments," not only did they aid in recovery, but the research team found the ants' choice of care catered to the type of injury presented to them.
"When we're talking about amputation behavior, this is literally the only case in which a sophisticated and systematic amputation of an individual by another member of its species occurs in the animal Kingdom," says first author Erik Frank, a behavioral ecologist from the University of Würzburg.
Please share good science news with us! (Especially JSWT, health, environment.)
A good place to look for science news if you are waiting for the Sunday Roundup is the archive of Overnight News Digest. On Saturdays, the OND always focuses on science, though not all of it is devoted to what I would call Good Science News.
Need more good news?
… arhpdx posted a list of good news sites toward the top of a recent Roundup, or you can find that same list in my comment: Good News Sources. Thank you, arhpdx and Mokurai!

You can use the map’s zoom arrows to resize the view and focus on your pin to find neighbors. Please note that the Google Map, though convenient to operate, is visually inaccurate because, among other issues, it enlarges North America and shrinks Africa [Maps present a distorted view of the world by kos].

PC Productivity #6 💨 ✅
I’m creating these PC Productivity notes for people who use PCs, although in the beginning, we will see many shortcuts that are used on both PCs and Macs. A gift of time.
We’ve begun with a series focusing on avoiding use of the mouse and learning to use keyboard shortcuts to reduce frustration and become more productive.
- PC Productivity #1 is here. Shortcuts for manipulating text.
- PC Productivity #2 is here.
- PC Productivity #3 is here.
- PC Productivity #4 is here. Shortcuts for Chrome tabs.
- PC Productivity #5 is here. Daily Kos shortcuts.
Programs come with keyboard shortcuts. To become more productive, use the mouse less frequently: Note the most common functions you use the mouse for. and find those shortcuts. You can find shortcuts by hovering your cursor over some buttons, by finding notes in the program about shortcuts, and by doing an Internet Search, for instance, on “Daily Kos keyboard shortcuts.”
Today’s shortcuts: Navigating Chrome tabs:
- Ctrl + Tab: Shift the focus to the next tab to the right.
- Ctrl + Shift + Tab: Shift the focus to the next tab to the left.

A Little Bit About Me
I was pleased with the results of my poll last Sunday: Should Joe Biden be the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party?” Results: 90% said Yes, 4% Undecideds, and 5% No.
I posted a MoneyBomb diary for Joe Biden on the last day of the second quarter. I was pleased with the response.
Ridin' with Biden. MoneyBomb Joe Biden: Last chance, this quarter. MoneyBomb!
UPDATE 9am ET: $13K!
With thanks to JanL for the suggestion. and to crystaline for some of the content.
Our Roundup is almost open!
Thank you for fighting for truth and justice with all us Gnusies! 40% of our Readers don’t visit every day, 50% of us do, and 10% are here for the first time! We all do what we can. For 5 years, we’ve shared positive news, laughed, organized, resisted, rebelled, revolted without being revolting, relied, rested, mentored, created, crossed rivers, chewed our cud, puffed methane out both ends, and laughed. Here’s looking at you, kid, and standing upwind! Beginners, you are cordially invited to comment!
As always, please share more Good News than I can find or provide.
This is a group diary, and by my power I declare this Good Gnus Salo(o)n open! Let the good-news sharing and community building begin!
Power with, not power over ❤️ ✊ ❤️
2thanks (he, him)
