Never a boring week—and definitely not a slow year for Democrats, despite 2023 being an “off” year. This week, The Downballot cohosts David Nir and David Beard review what happened as New York progressives blocked Kathy Hochul's conservative Democrat nominee for the top court in New York state. Next, they previewed a few elections coming up in Wisconsin and New Hampshire. Montana also became the last state to finish legislative redistricting, so Nir and Beard reviewed what has changed with their maps. A discussion about maps wouldn’t be complete without a new data set from our Daily Kos Elections colleague Stephen Wolf, which our hosts delve into to see just how lopsided the Senate is.
Last, but not least, Nir and Beard talk about the Electoral College with Christopher Pearson, a former Vermont legislator who is now an official with National Popular Vote, an organization devoted to switching our system for electing the president from the antiquated Electoral College to the popular vote.
