Fineena joined DailyKos way back in 2008. She has been a reader, more than a writer, due to spotty internet connections that have varied greatly over time. She has seen NC Dem fortunes rise and fall, but never lost her voting zeal. Before being hit with medical issues, she ran a small non-profit helping pet owners cover unexpected medical expenses that they could not afford without support.
Fineena is a 69 yr old Dem who has high blood pressure, heart problems, back pain, COPD, and has successfully fought lung cancer with surgery and cancer treatments. She uses an oxygen tank, when needed. Her dog, Henry, is a 14 yr old Airedale rescue, with health issues of his own, including kidney problems and increasing deafness and blindness.
Planning this move on such short notice has been difficult financially and emotionally. She sacrificed another beloved Airedale, Harriet, to me, because the new home has limits on pets. She has her old-timer, Henry, with her. I have the sweet 2 yr old pup with me.
Fineena pays her rent on time.
That’s not the problem. Social Security is her only income, yet she manages her bills.
However, for the 2nd time in 7 years, the house she is renting is being sold out from under her to be torn down and replaced by a newer, bigger, more expensive house. I’ve seen this block in Charlotte. Nearly every other house in the neighborhood is being torn down or expanded.
From a May 2017 diary about her previous forced move—
I have shared this before & will again because I want you to understand why I need your help. I lost my house (and most of its contents) to foreclosure about 6 years ago. I was a homeowner for many years & I forgot what it was like being a renter. It can be a very helpless feeling & for me, very unsettling when you need to find a new place. It was no big deal when I was young but at age 62 with 3 precious dogs & a very limited income, it’s not as easy. www.dailykos.com/...
Her current landlord has used a series of tactics, such as: raising the rent repeatedly; refusing to make repairs to the bathroom sink, hallway flooring, etc; and ineffective pest & mice control— all in an effort to coerce Fineena to move, but now he is ousting her. When your lease is month to month, there is little recourse.
GOAL
Her overall goal is $5,000 for moving costs such as a PODS container, washer/dryer and light furniture transport, trash removal, new bedding, some second hand furniture, small appliances, disconnecting and setting up utilities, and 1st month rent and deposit.
An apartment unit in a triplex has been located and a lease signed.
She has a $500 anonymous gift committed.
Can you help us reach the other $4,500?
All gifts of any size are welcome for Fineena and Henry’s move.
Best way you can make a donation
UPDATE!
