We've just learned that the Trans-Pacific Partnership -- the trade deal, negotiated in secret, that many are calling "NAFTA on steroids" -- may have an important new Democratic ally.
Oregon Senator Ron Wyden is reportedly working with Republicans like Paul Ryan and Orrin Hatch to pass the TPP. Their goal: to grease the wheels to get the TPP through Congress without proper review or a chance to make any changes to the deal itself.
As soon as next week, it appears that Senators Wyden and Hatch may introduce legislation giving the White House "fast track authority" that would limit Congressional power to review and fix the TPP.
What Senator Wyden doesn't know is that we just got back polling, which we'll release on Thursday, that shows Oregonians don't want the TPP or fast track authority.
In addition, Senator Elizabeth Warren and other progressive leaders have come out strongly against TPP and fast track. If Senator Wyden helps Republicans and a few Democrats succeed in giving the president this fast track authority, it will become much more difficult to stop the TPP. That's why we need to let Senator Wyden know we don't want him to cut this deal.
Sign DFA's petition before it's too late: Tell Sen. Ron Wyden to stand with Elizabeth Warren now and drop his potential legislation that would give the White House fast track authority on the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Corporate lobbyists are trying to jam this bad deal through Congress because they know that the American people won't like what's in it. So far, we know that the TPP will:
Make it easier to move jobs overseas and slash wages here at home (which is why many unions oppose it);
Roll back important environmental protections (which is why the Sierra Club opposes it);
Undermine Net Neutrality (which is why the Electronic Frontier Foundation opposes it);
Reverse regulations on tax giveaways to Wall Street banks (which is why Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders oppose it)
Perhaps the worst thing about this secretly negotiated trade deal is that it actually allows multi-national corporations to sue the U.S. Government in special international tribunals to overturn ANY law Congress might pass that these corporations don't like. That's right, ANY regulation America passes could be overturned by an international tribunal.
As the ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, Ron Wyden is in a key position. He can join corporations and Republicans to undermine opposition to the TPP. Or he can side with Elizabeth Warren and progressives from across America and drop his intention to give the White House fast track authority.
That's where you come in. Sign this DFA petition and tell Ron Wyden: Don't give the president fast track authority for the TPP.

Thank you for taking a stand against this terrible deal, along with Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, and the labor and environmental communities.
