A new Civiqs poll for Daily Kos shows that Republicans believe that “Trump 2: The Retribution” would be one of those rare sequels that improves on the original. They not only consider Trump a better candidate in 2024—Jan. 6 baggage and all—than he was the last time around, but they are even more certain that his “I am your retribution” return is exactly what they want.
When asked the question “Thinking back to the 2020 election, do you think Donald Trump today is…” both an overwhelming percentage of Democrats (87%) and a plurality of independents (43%) say that the latest version of Trump is an even worse candidate than in the previous cycle.
When it comes to how Trump might handle the nation if given a second chance, independents are evenly split, with 41% thinking that Trump would do better given another try and 42% feeling it would be worse. Considering that Trump’s first term included a pandemic that ultimately resulted in the deaths of over a million Americans, it’s not hard to see how someone might think he couldn’t be that bad a second time. Even so, Democrats are convinced it’s possible, with 93% saying that any Trump sequel would suck.
But Republicans are absolutely stoked for Trump’s return.
