First day of early vote totals from NC are in, and they are similarly impressive to Georgia. The Michigan numbers are equally encouraging. Nobody knows what higher early voter numbers in Florida means (it often has helped the GOP in the past), but those are high, too.
If you don’t think this matters, it DOES. It gives campaigns the opportunity to spend closing resources on turning out low-frequency voters. Also, it shows tremendous base enthusiasm, which mitigates the worst case scenarios for Dems, even if independents have swung as hard to the right as a few wonky polls have recently predicted. And if independents are not actually flying to the “I-Only-Steal-Your-Money-But-You-Trust-Me-On-The-Economy-Because-The-Media-Tells-You-To” GOP (I don’t think they are), we still have a good shot to hold the House and pick up 1-3 Senate seats.
Please Donate to Cheri Beasley’s Senate Campaign if you can. IMO it’s the sleeper race in the Senate, and if she loses, it’ll be very close. If anyone wants to write letters to NC voters or volunteer there (I’ll be in Wilmington the weekend before the election), that would also be awesome.
Good luck to us, and good luck to Democracy! We have a real chance to do something the system is not expecting here.
