All Are Welcome!
This is a weekly blog with a fun vibe that often veers off gardening, so stop on by and join the conversation. We adore new people! We are here every Saturday at 8AM Central with new content and chit chat continuing throughout the week. We have a core crew that checks in each day, all comments are read. Which makes us the best diary series on DK.
Morning y’all, and welcome to another DownHeah edition of Saturday Morning Garden Blogging. I had higher expectations for today’s diary, but when I found out that we had to work a mandatory overtime shift this Saturday, well, the wind kinda went out of my sails…
Anyhoo, it’s hot! Tomato plants do not like hot. We have been harvesting a lot of tomatoes the last couple of weeks, but I’m seeing newer blooms drying up and dropping. The high overnight temps are a real problem because the plants get no chance to cool off and regroup from the heat of the day. I’ve got a 24” floor fan running 24/7 to just keep air moving and keep the temperature down, especially at night… For now, things are looking ok.
This is probably the high point. The high hard heat of July & August will take its toll…
No ripe fruit quite yet, but Sully’s Dwarf Gina is looking good. All are in containers...
Campari, seed saved from Kroger bought tomatoes. They’re not great; we’ll see...
CWalter and I are helping a friend grow out a F2 variety, for the moment named HPRM (Husky Pink,ISI x Rozovyi Myod). Mine are coming along pretty nicely.
I cloned a few tomato plants from “suckers”. These are all Sully’s Pink.
I gifted a couple to some friends. I’ll plant out the other two, we’ll see...
A good YouTube video about tomato suckers HERE.
The Pepper Patch is doing ok. They are not quite as affected by high heat as tomatoes, but I’ve had to water more than usual. Been picking some Prairie Spice, Poblano and Carranza.
This one is a mystery. The seeds I got were labeled “Chile Conga”. I mistakenly thought that it was “Chocolate Habanero”. Nope, not even close.
I’m doing more research, but I suspect that it’s an ornamental variety. Very pretty…
I’ll leave y’all with our Barn Swallows. Only one nest this year, after having three for the past decade. This bunch has fledged...
I’ll be around to check comments later on Saturday. I’m looking forward to seeing pics of your latest gardening efforts! ~PEACE~
