I’m going to be honest; I didn’t care about the debate. It’s effectively reset the zeitgeist back to where it was in 2020, and that’s not such a bad thing. Palestine defenders got their reminder that abstaining from Biden would not be any better for the cause. I don’t think it changed anything about our chances for getting Democrats in power.
What did scare me is the Supreme Court. The ungovernable body that is already definitely trying to work against us. With the elections themselves, I do think time is on our side. But not with SCOTUS. I’ve been shaking with fear since yesterday about what else could happen between now and November, and how they could potentially erode the potential for an election to even happen.
I don’t know if anybody in government can make a proper stand against this in time. So I’m going to turn it over to the floor; what can we do, in all our power as average citizens, to help stop a catastrophic full takeover before the polls are even open? I don’t have the savvy to know this myself, but I want to do as much as can be done.
When I describe what I see happening to the people in my life, there’s a dejected “Well, they’ve done it before...” and then they move on. It feels like they’ve accepted the fascist takeover and are going to let it slide like 2000’s outrage decision or any of the other “technically legal” injustices that take over.
I can’t accept that defeat. What can we do?
