Just a quick note for the people who were interested in the appearance of the monolith on the dairy farm in the small town of Bellvue outside of Fort Collins, Colorado. The owners of the field where the monolith stood dismantled and removed the (statue, device, monument?) from the top of the hill because of the amount of foot and vehicle traffic it generated. They say that they’re taking good care of it and whoever put it up can have it back.
Because one commenter from my earlier diary about this asked, they say in this article that the dimensions were 9 feet x 4 feet x 8 inches. Not quite 9 feet x 4 feet x 1 foot of the book and movie.
From the Fort Collins Coloradoan newspaper:
The shine of the Bellvue monolith has worn off and the private landowner removed the popular pillar Wednesday morning from the hilltop where it sat since it mysteriously appeared June 23.
The Coloradoan was the first to report the monolith's appearance.
"The final decision to remove it was the overwhelming influx of people who came to see it,'' Lori Graves, who owns the property with husband Rob Graves, told the Coloradoan on Wednesday morning. "If the creator would like to have it back, they can email the cafe. We will keep it but are not sure what we are going to do with it.''
It was removed before the 4th of July holiday weekend so as not to attract even more visitors.
