This is a participatory diary. I am hoping to help people remember the things we care about that drive us to support Democrats. I can’t remember everything all the time. I’ll get it started, but I don’t want to go on and on. Please chime in. Let’s be positive. It could be fun!
My formative reasons for being a supporter of the Democratic Party were primarily economic. My family growing up was lower working class. I am in favor of things like taxing the rich, a living wage, not privatizing services like hospitals and schools, labor unions, etc.
Currently, since I have children of my own, I am extremely concerned about the planet—which Republicans want to destroy if we don’t stop them. Of course, I’m also concerned about our democracy—which will end if Trump gets another term—along with all of the protections the rule of law provides for everyone.
In the poll, I ask people to pick one reason. It’s hard. And I am sure I forgot some major categories. Please remind me! My number one issue at the moment has to be “saving democracy” because we can’t do any of the other things without that.
Your turn!
*edit* I am glad a couple people answered my poll! I was hoping you would comment, too, about what matters to you.
*second edit* This exercise isn’t getting much action—probably because my writing was uninspiring, but I’m going to leave it here while I go to sleep anyway. If anyone wakes up, stables across it, and wants to reflect on what why they originally became a Democratic voter and/or, continue to be a Democratic voter, and/or what is motivating them now, please share it with us all. Thanks!
