I woke up this morning, looked at Daily Kos as I do every morning. Read about the SCOTUS decisions, especially the one about “Chevron.” I just wanted to go back to bed, and I did, slept another hour.
I usually enjoy listening to jazz these days — Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, many others. But today I needed voices. I don’t usually listen to The Beatles since I have them in my head by heart. I often turn to Bob Dylan when I need inspiration, strength, truth and awareness. So I started running through what I needed.
I’ll list a little itinerary — be welcome to list your own. We need it all — our music, our songs and singers, our books, our art. I usually put on NPR when I’m in the morning shower, but for the past week I just switched to the classical music station for relief — I’m sick of listening to pundits speculating about whether Biden should withdraw — withdraw??? for WHAT???
The Beatles — Let It Be, A Day in the Life, Hey Jude, While My Guitar Gently Weeps . . .
Dylan — Political World, Everything is Broken, Not Dark Yet, World Gone Wrong, The Levee’s Gonna Break . . .
I could suggest many, many others (Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Judy Collins, Joe Cocker, Woody Guthrie of course, Jackie Leven (Scot), Christy Moore (Irish), Martin Carthy and Martin Simpson (UK), Bob Marley of course, Van Morrison, Paul McCartney, UB40, just giving you a kick start.
I have to fight back the tears.
