“Television is very educational. Every time someone turns the set on, I go in the other room and read a book.” – Groucho Marx
NBC- “Some Ex-DOJ, who worked for Trump, fear the Supreme Court just made it easy for him to use the DOJ to attack foes.” Can I get a collective well, DUH! No shit Sherlock? Pay attention Gomer. Had I just inadvertently tuned into dimwit.com?
The former employees spoke on condition of anonymity because it makes for a way better story. If you knew it might be an office boy or a security guard, the story might not have the same zing. It’s what the cogent call…obvious. As in, that’s the point entirely.
Any leader given unlimited power will abuse it. Donald Trump given unlimited power, and immunity could so distort the world as we know it to destroy it quite literally. “Gee, I wonder what will happen if we put a mad man in charge for a while?” Gee, I wonder what would happen if we abandoned protecting the environment for a few years? Gee, I wonder what would happen if they gave Wall Street a free hand? Gee, I wonder who would eventually pay for all those tax cuts?
I wonder what would happen to the world if we abandoned our allies and international obligations? I wonder what would happen in Europe, Taiwan, or Korea?
The Supreme Court gave Trump approval and cover to use the complete alphabet of government agencies. They don’t need the Justice Department to put you in Guantanamo when they have the CIA. “Badges? We don’t need no stinking badges!” Officially, they don’t know where you went. You’re just a missing person like so many others. Just scoop you up and disappear you. Bye! (national security) All very hush, hush and very legal.
You, [Your Name] could be listed as Abu Algebra suspected Isis Chieftain. That’s that! He says he’s Harry Jones, a reporter from Cleveland. But he didn’t fool us, after eleven hours of interrogation, he finally confessed. Who would ever argue a suspected terrorist was actually a political prisoner? Who would come all the way to your cell in Cuba just to look and see who was actually in there? The DOJ would have dust gathering on their desks if they put Trump in power. Dictators don’t need litigators. Trump won’t take you to court, he’ll take you to prison. Fuck courts! In the words of Firesign Theater, “Now I am the people.”
History is very explicit as to what would happen. Camps would begin appearing in remote out of the way locations. Relatively humane at first, but soon overwhelmed by the sheer volume of people. Now do the job your boss expects you to do. Don’t bother them will details and don’t ask for more money. The answer to the overcrowding is just obvious, isn’t it? Get your card punched and move up the ladder. But it becomes such an easy problem solver. Who did you say raped you? And once in the camp the mortality statistics become private due to operational security. After all, we wouldn’t want Isis to find out! Now, would we? Har, har, har.
There would be a whole lot of shutting up going on, and then lots of dark. Lots and lots of Happy Talk amid a loss of confidence and decline in the markets. Followed by the manipulation of the markets. Richard Nixon tried to stave off a recession by buying two years’ worth of coffee and toilet paper for the military. Can you imagine the bullshit Donald Trump unhinged would try?
The media would become even more obtuse and unfocused. Media in dictatorships focus largely on happy news. The King opens a new bridge! Highways to have more smiles per mile! Big Brother to increase the chocolate ration! Remember? Trump didn’t hold press conferences every day or even every week. Ah, that’s the job for me! Nothing to do and all week to do it!
The President says the following; now get the fuck outta my office before I have your cars towed! Questions? If you have any questions. You write them down and put them in the box on my desk. The one labeled, “Looking for trouble.”
Of course, Congress could demand investigations and information and would receive only a middle finger salute in return. The Congress could even try to impeach the President. But that would be a pointless effort. The President is immune from prosecution in his official acts. Take him to court! Somewhere there is a Federal Judge who is unwise enough and unafraid enough. Any unfavorable ruling will be immediately appealed to a friendlier jurisdiction for final disposal.
I fear the greatest obstacle for Trump will be the military. As they have shown themselves to be a straight and stiff-necked bunch. They ignored Trump’s orders and slow walked Trump’s orders. They ratted Trump out at every opportunity and if necessary, will do so again. If Trump is elected, look for a wave of military resignations.
There is only one certain way to make sure that this nightmare doesn’t befall us. Vote!
“I read in the newspapers they are going to have 30 minutes of intellectual stuff on television every Monday from 7:30 to 8. to educate America. They couldn't educate America if they started at 6:30.”
