Bush Offers Details of 2002 Plot in Defense of Terror Strategy
I'm not a journalist. But, I couldn't help but gasp as I read the following paragraph, penned by David Stout, in the NYT Online article on Bush's terror-aversion message today.
Counterterrorism officials said months ago that the Los Angeles skyscraper (Mr. Bush mistakenly called it the "Liberty Tower") would be a logical target for a West Coast attack, although Mr. Bush had not spoken in detail before about the officials' suspicions. Given the building's iconic status, it is easy to see why America-haters would rejoice at seeing it fall -- as some rejoiced when the Twin Towers in New York collapsed.
WTF is an "America-hater"? Was this a quote that was missplaced and unreferenced? Its not so hard to be cynical these days, but the SCLM just keeps making it easier and easier.
Though off-topic, Atrios nails it today saying:
I think it's great when journalists, say, go on CNN to discuss a particular news story they've written, but they degrade their craft and confuse people about what they're supposed to be doing when they position themselves as something they claim not to be - pundits.
Yet despite this, just when you think it simply can't get worse, a major news network has today broadcast aliens blowing up a major metropolitan skyscraper in the guise of
real news...
sighhhh.....
