Seattle:
Stumbled onto an owl roost tree Monday evening - a Doug Fir on the edge of a meadow in full view of picnic tables and a playground. The clue? Over a dozen owl pellets scattered underneath, the regurgitated undigestible remains of their prey. As some of my younger friends say: "Owl barf!"
Owl pellet containing Deer Mouse bones.

I pulled apart a couple and found the remains of Deer Mouse, Creeping Vole and various rats. There's no way of dating the pellets, but they're relatively intact so may be fairly recent. More on what owl pellets can tell us in a later diary.
Still no swallows in the alley.
