Republicans have been freaking out over the fact that one of the least-liked human beings on the planet, Sen. Ted Cruz, has found himself in a real dogfight this election, against Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke. O’Rourke has done a good job of showing people what a halfway decent and articulate person can offer you that a ghoul like Cruz cannot. But the elected officials in the Republican establishment aren’t the only ones freaking out. Music legend Willie Nelson is headlining an upcoming political rally for Beto O’Rourke on September 29, at Auditorium Shores in Austin, Texas.
A press release from Nelson’s publicist describes the event as “the first public concert Nelson has held for a political candidate.”
“My wife Annie and I have met and spoken with Beto and we share his concern for the direction things are headed,” Nelson said in the press release. “Beto embodies what is special about Texas, an energy and an integrity that is completely genuine.”
This isn’t the first time that Nelson has shown his appreciation for O’Rourke. He pulled O’Rourke onstage during a Fourth of July Picnic concert this year, and played a couple of tunes with O’Rourke backing him on guitar. Still, you know how disappointed conservatives can be when their obvious delusions are challenged. So when Willie Nelson posted the news about the September 29 rally on his Facebook page, some fans just lost their God-loving minds. Here are some comments:
Goodbye Willie, I don't support socialist commies! You're not going to advertise on my FB page either. Like we say in Texas, Now Git!
”Socialist commies!” Pretty hardcore.
Good bye Willie...you are not on the right side.. take a look around you and do the right thing...I always thought you were a patriot...wow what a let down. You would pick a socialist agenda and an Anti American fellow like BETO, shame on you.
I guess all that work Willie did to support farmers and raise money and awareness wasn’t “patriotic” enough to overcome black people peacefully protesting racism, Melanie?
I was going to buy his new release not now, they will never learn I don't care what he thinks about politics
But...it seems like you do care just a little bit, amirite?
Willie use to be someone I looked up to....now he is just another John McCain with bitter hate and venomous garbage in his heart ....to bad ...should have stuck to singing and smoking alittle weed
I can’t even.
I adored you - and always have - but no more. This is more than sad - I am devastated. Did you forget you are in Texas? Dear God I will pray for you to open your eyes. IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO CANCEL THAT GIG!
HE ISN’T CANCELLING IT. I AM SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS!
Maybe beto's judge dad is the one who got him out of tax trouble yrs ago and now he has no choice but to "Support Him Against His Will" LOL. Well, it sounds like a good movie plot anyways...hahaha …
The odds are a 1,000-to-1 this “fan” watches a lot of YouTube videos about QAnon.
Willie, I saw you perform way back in the 70's at The Chilimpiad in San Marcos, TX before you grew your hair long. You're a TX treasure and I love you! However, I wish you wouldn't throw your hat of influence in the political ring. As winsome as Beto is, and much as I dislike Cruz, I'm conservative and will vote accordingly. I hope Texans will not swayed in the end by star power -- Beto's or your endorsement of him. In the end, three cheers for free speech and for TX.
I suggest you reread what you wrote, and “vote accordingly.”
The good news is that, after an initial backlash from Willie Nelson “fans,” many more flooded in to support Willie’s decision, whether or they agreed with him politically or not. I support Willie Nelson because he’s awesome. You can see a little of Nelson and O’Rourke playing at Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic below.
