It’s radio silence from Donald Trump after a second sexual assault allegation against Brett Kavanaugh emerged, but the White House is sticking with its man. Trump has stayed off Twitter so far, which is ominous considering his last blasts on the subject last week. But as of 7:50 AM, the AP reported that “The White House remained firmly behind Kavanaugh Monday and planned an aggressive defense, said a White House official not authorized to speak publicly, who stressed the lack of corroborating evidence.”
White House adviser Kellyanne Conway also emerged to lament that “I don’t think one man’s shoulders should bear decades of the #MeToo movement.” Kavanaugh has flatly denied the second allegation, from his Yale classmate Deborah Ramirez, just as he denied the first one, from Christine Blasey Ford.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, has called for an “immediate postponement” of Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings until both women’s allegations can be investigated by the FBI.
In an interview recorded before Ramirez came forward but slated to be broadcast Monday morning, Trump stood by “fantastic, fantastic man” Kavanaugh.
