Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand had seemed to rule out a presidential run shortly before November’s elections, but she is now reportedly planning to announce a presidential exploratory committee on Stephen Colbert’s show Tuesday night. Gillibrand has been staffing up for a presidential run, bringing on several experienced operatives.
Gillibrand has been a steadfast opponent of Donald Trump, in particular voting against his nominees.
She will follow Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, and former HUD Secretary Julián Castro in entering—or at least in announcing plans to explore entering—the 2020 Democratic presidential primary.
