A presidential campaign has many elements. Big speeches, forums, debates, fundraising, handling interviews. The backbone of a campaign is state and local staff and volunteers; they do the getting out the vote, the phone calling and door knocking. They provide the spark and enthusiasm at rallies and campaign stops. They remain in locations where getting the word out is key, after the candidate moves on to the next event.
I’ve been following Senator Harris on twitter, and the folks who are working on her campaign — staff, interns and volunteers. I am really enjoying a look at the reception she’s getting from people in different states, with folks young and old, who are racially, ethnically, and gender diverse. They look like my idea of the Democratic Party. They also look like the America I want as a future — not the one currently being dragged back into the past by Trump and his supporters.
I know quite a few readers here are not on twitter, so while you may see news headlines, or brief stories on cable news, rarely do you get to take a look at the people who are making it all happen — on the ground.
This is not a diary about policies and platforms. We’ve done plenty of them here at Kamala2020, and will continue to do so.
This is a celebration of people joyfully committed to their candidate.
Sometimes we need a break from the insanity of all things ugly which we are being barraged with 24-7. I know I do.
If you are on twitter — give them a follow and/or retweet.
Let’s take a look:

Thought I’d put this in because I’m glad to see Kamala folks working hard to get local Democrats elected:

This was a rally — staff and volunteers got the word out — and it was a success!

Upcoming Events:
August 24: Durham, NC
Harris is the keynote speaker Aug. 24 at the Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People’s 84th Founders’ Day banquet. The Durham Committee’s political action committee makes endorsements and has been active in advocating for the African American community for decades. Previous speakers at its Founders’ Day banquet have included U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, a California Democrat, and Melissa Harris-Perry, a professor and television host.
August 25: Greensboro, NC
Harris’ program is focused on collecting student volunteers and voter commitments and scheduling follow-up meetings with students interested in learning more about the campaign, according to the statement. Campaign staff will also meet with “campus captains” who are in charge of organizing for the campaign on campus ahead of the 2020 election.
Though Emhoff will appear only in Clemson, other Harris campaign staffers will visit Allen University, Lander University, Furman University, Greenville Technical College, the University of South Carolina Upstate, S.C. State University, USC Aiken, USC’s main campus in Columbia, the College of Charleston, Coker University, Coastal Carolina University, Florence-Darlington Technical College, Georgetown Technical College and Winthrop University.
Harris has long made universities a focus in her quest to win the Democratic presidential nomination. Earlier this summer, the campaign announced it would zero in on historically black colleges and universities, organizing student groups, including fraternities and sororities.
Group Guidelines
The Kamala2020 community group has been created to positively support Senator Kamala Harris, and not to engage in negativity towards other Democrats running in the 2020 primaries.
All should be made to feel welcomed here. What’s not welcomed here is petty bickering over any of our preferred candidates, or personal attacks on fellow Democrats. We’re not responsible for the actions of others who may offend, insult or attempt to sow discord and disunity — that’s on them.
What we are responsible for are our own words and actions — that’s 100% on us.
I’d like to ask all group members, as well as those dropping by who support or are interested in Kamala’s bid for the nomination, that we not respond to negativity from other campaign’s supporters with even more negativity. Let’s do better than our best and respond with respect, humor or try to hold our peace. Recipes and cat pics work, too 😃
Doing no harm costs us nothing... pie-fights will cost us everything.
