Apparently Lindsey Graham was none too concerned about the galaxy-sized gap in our nation’s credibility after he voted to acquit Donald John Trump—twice—of eminently impeachable offenses.
Moreover, he’s not terribly concerned about gaps in health coverage, or in our previous pr*sident’s response to COVID-19.
Though he does appear determined to close the meager Planck-length distance between his quavering lapdog lips and our erstwhile overlord’s arsehole. Because the one gap he’s sincerely (pretending to be) concerned about is a small physical opening in Trump’s utterly useless southern border wall.
In his own words:
Transcript for those who don’t do tweets:
GRAHAM: “I’ve been told they’ve been informed, ordered to stop plugging this hole, which makes this entire wall almost useless. To counter this, they’re having to have labor-intensive efforts of manpower. They’re having people watch and ATVs going up and down. If they would just build these two panels they could take those resources and apply it somewhere else. This is beyond dumb. Even for the federal government, this is beyond dumb. It was worth the whole trip to see how stupid this is becoming. If you don’t just fill in this little gap, everything else you’ve done makes no sense. And the people in charge of defending our country from illegal crossing have a real problem on their hands. Let’s fix it. Whether you’re Republican, Democrat, vegetarian, libertarian, it makes no sense to build a wall with a hole in it.”
Okay, Lindsey, but you could have stopped right here:
… it makes no sense to build a wall with a hole in it.
I’m no wall expert, but I’ve crunched the numbers, and I’ve determined the number of people who would be prevented from crossing the border by filling in that gap would be zero, plus or minus zilch.
Because …
And …
Smuggling gangs in Mexico have repeatedly sawed through new sections of President Trump’s border wall in recent months by using commercially available power tools, opening gaps large enough for people and drug loads to pass through, according to U.S. agents and officials with knowledge of the damage.
The breaches have been made using a popular cordless household tool known as a reciprocating saw that retails at hardware stores for as little as $100. When fitted with specialized blades, the saws can slice through one of the barrier’s steel-and-concrete bollards in minutes, according to the agents, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the barrier-defeating techniques.
So I don’t know what you’re really trying to prove, Lindsey. But since you’re already down there, maybe you could grab a couple tubs of Legos and get the job done yourself. It would be sort of like what you do in the Senate every day, but far more honest.
Anyway, nice publicity stunt. Keep building that legacy, Linds. Mind the gaps.
