This morning’s tunes are from one of the greatest musicians of all time—Prince Rogers Nelson. My generation was always comparing him to his early contemporary, Michael Jackson. Despite his androgynous persona, Prince was always considered the bad boy, the one whose music you didn’t sing in front of your parents. It was that visceral.
Tipper Gore also thought Prince’s music was too dirty for young minds. When she heard her then 11 year old daughter Karenna listening to “Darling Nikki” she began work on the Parents Music Resource Center. They are the old fuddy duddies who are responsible for the Parental Advisory stickers on selected album covers. Record companies willingly went with the stickers since I doubt they have interfered with music sales.
Prince was taken from us far too early. He had bad hip joints. Prescription painkillers worked well for him until his doctors decided to pull him off them. The pain without them was too much to allow him to work. Like far too many pain patients today, he took to street dealers to find relief. Tragically, Prince died in 2016 when he unknowingly took fentanyl.
So what’s on your mind this morning?
