I tried to share a post from Digby’s Hullabaloo earlier today to Facebook. It got yanked almost immediately. Here’s the not terribly helpful explanation.
In case you were wondering just what was so misleading, here’s the link:
David Corn takes a look at the right’s response to the shooting yesterday. Let’s just say they aren’t exactly being
It is hardly surprising that a political movement that has as its godhead a convicted felon and inveterate liar who attempted to overturn an election and incited a violent assault on the US Capitol to retain power would within nanoseconds exploit the assassination attempt at a Donald Trump rally that left one attendee dead. But the utter brazenness of this effort has been stunning. Before crucial details were known—who’s the shooter? why did he do this?—MAGA was out in full-force to blame President Joe Biden, Democrats, and progressives for this shooting by stirring up anti-Trump sentiment. Leading the way in unhinged right-wing responses, Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.) called for Biden to be arrested for “inciting an assassination.”
Even after it emerged that Thomas Matthew Crooks, the alleged shooter, was a registered Republican (who apparently made a $15 donation to a liberal political action committee in 2021), the crap kept coming. Sean Parnell, a right-wing commentator who in 2021 suspended his Senate campaign in Pennsylvania after his wife accused him of spousal and child abuse, tweeted at Biden: “It happened because of this sort of BS rhetoric from you & the rest of your party. It’s sickening. It needs to stop.”
Read the whole thing — and Read David Corn as well.
The MAGA Party: every accusation is a confession.
Democrats need to push back aggressively on MAGA attempts to flip the narrative. There’s enough material on video, tweets, and elsewhere to show who has overwhelmingly been inciting stochastic violence, and it ain’t Team Blue.
Any Democrat who gets asked by the press if maybe Democrats should tone down their remarks should paraphrase Harry Truman:
“I never did give them hell. I just told the truth, and they thought it was hell.”
Now more than ever Democrats need to keep telling the truth about the MAGA Party, and pushing back against the press trying to both sides this.
Lincoln Duncan makes three points worth reminding the press to remember.
First, even on the most generous interpretation of the events of January 6, Donald Trump sat idly by for three hours while the Capitol was under attack.
Second, Donald Trump mocked Nancy Pelosi and her husband, who was injured more severely than Trump with his ear injury.
Third, Democrats banned AR-15s and other assault weapons, and Republicans legalized them. The reason you need a massive perimeter around political rallies is because of how deadly these weapons are. You can’t throw a knife 150 yards.
If that’s not good enough for the media, which seems to act as though only Democrats can be held responsible for anything, try this rejoinder:
If Republicans don’t like Democrats telling the truth about them, maybe they should first stop lying about Democrats.
False civility is going to be the death of us all.
If you want to do something to make a statement without relying on social media, try going old school. The Biden Victory Fund has plenty of yard signs for sale, and other merchandise. They have some simple messaging: “Control Guns not Girls”, “Look Up Project 2025”, and plenty of Biden-Harris stuff. It’s made in America and Union-Printed.
And don’t tell just anybody about this, but there’s all kinds of other ways to get involved.
ADDENDUM: Nearly forgot. One way to get around Facebook that seems to work is to make the initial post linking to an article just a simple text message, and put any links/images in the first comment to the post.
