After G.W. Bush invaded Afghanistan (and then violated the conditions Congress had given him before he could invade Iraq), many of us became active in the Democratic Party. We put a lot of effort into finding someone that could oppose Bush and win the election. Many of us favored Howard Dean, but the media has a way of making people they’re not fond of look foolish, or at least kind of unhinged, and the party put up John Kerry, a decorated war hero. Of course, in the opposite world created by Karl Rove, that was used against him.
Little noticed was a Front Line look at the Democratic Party Convention, that year held in Boston. There were the ordinary folks who had put in a lot of hours to get themselves to that convention, but there was also a separate set of parties and meetings to which only a few were allowed to attend. I remember Nancy Pelosi was highlighted in the brief clip of one of those soirées (the cameras were not invited)
As we know, Junior won a second term and set about destroying more democracy here and elsewhere.
Now in the chaotic world in which we live and vote, the best laid plans of all the strategizers are often thwarted. The world of politics is less like a giant chess match and more like a high stakes game of bumper cars. Rich donors and party elites create their own reality at times.
I don’t find any wisdom in the idea of some mysterious person stepping up these last few months and replacing President Biden. Seems entirely foolish! Of course, I am not a party elite. I don’t have 7 million dollars or so to donate, but I do have a grass roots idea of what makes sense and what is ridiculous. And what these rich donors and political elites will have to answer for by throwing a decent man away like so much garbage, based upon their oh-so-private polling. They can have their cocktail parties—just stop creating chaos and confusion.
As many have said, please let us remind the electorate what’s in the details of Project 2025, what the Republican power elites want to do to women, and how the richest people on the planet would decimate the Middle Class to enrich themselves.
Now can this little essay actually make them stop doing this? I think not; however, I will enjoy watering my garden, letting go of anger, resentment, fear, and the rest, and sending Light and healing energy to those who strive to make a positive difference in this world.
