This is meant as an unofficial thread for the Daily Kos Elections crowd to discuss what is going on with Biden and efforts to get him to step down from the Presidential nomination. This is because very wisely talk over who should be the nominee aka primary talk is forbidden because it tends to drown out all other talk. All I ask for in this thread is that we keep it to electoral politics (how it will affect the election) rather than policy.
There is a lot of angst right now. Just wanted to say cheer up. Again. Republican Convention. Political parties tend to have their best polling numbers right at the convention. They can also change entire narratives. In 1992 Bill Clinton didn’t lead a single poll against Bush or Perot until the Democratic Convention. Ross Perot briefly got out and the Democrats had a great convention and things just gelled together. At the very least don’t give up hope until the Democrats have their turn!
Rick Wilson in the Lincoln Project podcast (which featured Mike Madrid writer of the great book, The Latino Century) made some great points worth listening to to even if you are not as vehement in your support of Biden as the nominee as Wilson is.
Among them is that there is no universe where there is such a large percentage of Trump-Gallego voters as polling currently shows exists on election day. Not in this highly polarized political environment. And this goes for other swing states. There is a big mass of voters who want to vote for a Democrat who are looking to come home and will come home.
Does thing mean we’re going to win? Who knows. But there is some light at the end of the tunnel whether Biden stays our nominee or as some may want (including evidently the legislative leaders of the Democratic Party) he doesn’t.
Of course when I say relax I mean from fretting. Not the work we’ll need to do to get as many our nominees as we can on election day.
