It is a bizarre coincidence, but I was watching an episode of Star Trek Voyager that just happened to be on tonight. It was an episode where the ship had been captured by the Hirogen in the episode “The Killing Game”. The crew was forced to partake in simulations of World War Two.
Watching a holographic Nazi giving a speech about the master race and crushing their enemies while giving total allegiance to the Fuhrer was just a little too close to the spectacle in Milwaukee.
I’m not going to comment on what just unfolded over the past few days other than to say this is what it must have been like in Jonestown or among the Branch Davidians before it all collapsed.
They have created their own reality in blind service to a faith dipped from a poison well.
They want to force the rest of us to live in their world because they are unable to live in ours. They want the certainty of us versus them, an unquestionable leader with all the answers they need. They don’t want to face inconvenient facts or a world whose complexity frightens them.
Their freedom is the freedom to live in a cage of lies, to hate without remorse or empathy.
And with all that, they embrace victimhood to justify their vengeance for imaginary wrongs and self-inflicted injuries they blame on ‘others’.
