I've encountered countless commentary on how we got here and what went wrong, with many laying much of the blame on the media.
But I've not seen this thought specifically expanded.
The idea that the media is "not doing its job" is mistaken.
The media's job, in our capitalist society, is to make money. And not just make money, but to make more money every year, quarter, month to infinity.
This is the fundamental flaw in an unregulated capitalistic system, one we are (once again) rapidly devolving into.
Even at this terrifying juncture for our country, the main concern for the folks who own the media (including MSNBC and CNN), is how best to maximize their profits, both short and long term.
With that premise in mind, what would be the most surefire way to grow those profits over the next 4-5 years... Biden or Trump being elected?
Kind of jumps right out at you, doesn't it? Trump becomes President, and people (those who have not dropped out of society altogether) will be glued to their TV's (to cite just one medium), waiting to see what outrageous or illegal thing he does next.
That's why we can't get a break, and why we're in serious trouble.
They're just 'doing their job'.
