It's just over a month now until our Northern New England meetup on Saturday, February 16th, 2013 at Margarita's Mexican Restaurant in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. We'll eat, meet and greet from 1 to 4pm.

So that we can work with the restaurant management to make sure everything goes smoothly, we'll need to tell them exactly a week before how many are coming, so please pull out your calendars. Most importantly, I'll need your RSVPs as soon as possible.

RSVPs may be sent to terunharris AT yahoo DOT com, which I have dedicated specifically for meet-up business. While I'd love it if you RSVP right here in the diary, it is so important to send it also to that email address so that I can create a database to help keep you informed via email, and create a space for sharing details, directions and concerns. I'm still working from an old list and trying to update the database. Remember: I'm new at this and need all of the help I can get to put the list together and know who will be joining us. You can also send me a KosMail. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in February!

Did we forget you? Are you on the list and bringing a spouse/SO/guest? Not on the list yet? Let me know in the diary or by email!

PS: some folks have RSVPd at the yahoo email but did not tell me what their Kos names are. Please include them in communication so we can add them to the list here on Daily Kos. We don't want out anyone.

See you in February!

A while back, commonmass wrote a diary about our upcoming wedding and talked a little about his family’s background and views on marriage. (It is worth noting that commonmass proposed to me right here on the Daily Kos a few months ago.) I thought it would be important to level the playing field, and write about my experience.  Where I come from, and the forces that have shaped me, as we prepare to join our two families together, and share about what the concept of marriage means to me.
Follow me over the fold for some stories and insight…

Greetings and best wishes to everyone for enjoyable and safe holiday gatherings! Speaking of gatherings, we've got one we'd like to invite you to on Saturday, February 16th, 2013 at Margarita's Mexican Restaurant in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. We'll eat, meet and greet from 1 to 4pm.

Now this has been one of the biggest regular gatherings of Kossacks in the last few years and we'd love to keep it that way. "Why this restaurant and this town?" some have asked. Well, except for a glitch in service last October, this restaurant has been a great host for our big group (big as in thirty to forty people big). I would not be surprised if our meet-ups there figure into the location's yearly projections. As for the town, it's been proven time and again that Portsmouth is a middle ground for folks from as far away as the South Shore in Massachusetts and folks as far north/east as Augusta, Maine. While we may experiment with other cities and locations in the future, right now let's stick with what we know works. I realize that Portsmouth is a tremendous challenge for Kossacks who live in the western part of the region, and perhaps someone in Western New Hampshire or Vermont would be willing to help me coordinate a meetup closer to you in the future.  Besides, I have been building a relationship with the management and they are not only expecting us, they have assured us they will be prepared.

Speaking of the management at Margarita's, in order to help them help us we're going to need folks to start sending their RSVP's. We'll need to tell them exactly a week before how many are coming, so please pull out your calendars. Help me make this an exciting day!

Welcome, New England Kossacks! As some of you may know, I've inherited the mantle of coordinating the Northern New England Meet-ups (previously the "Cheers and Jeers" meetups) from Common Sense Mainer.

Many of us would agree that the three meetups we had in Portsmouth each year worked well, and I'd like to continue that tradition. So, I'd like to announce a meet-up for Saturday, February 16th, 2013 from 1pm-4-pm. This is tentatively scheduled for our usual venue of Margarita's Restaurant in Portsmouth, NH. I will post another diary soon with the RSVP-by date.

I'm excited to take over the co-ordination of these events from Common Sense Mainer, but I'll still rely on you to support our meet-ups through your participation and attendance.  As a newbie to the blogosphere, I hope to bring about the most attention to meet ups with the least amount of stepping on toes in the process.

Just a word about how these meetups have been in the past and how--based on talking to some of the people who have regularly attended--folks would like to see them continue in the future: these meetups are an opportunity to get together and talk politics, pooties, knitting, beer, Daily Kos, you name it. Above all, they have been casual and fun, and we'd like to keep it that way.  I hope that if you should ever be in the neighborhood when we're meeting you'll make it a point to join in!  Be looking for more information in upcoming diaries and emails. Thank you!
