I, for one, am sick and tired of the NRA and its (mostly) Republican boot lickers parroting what is a pretty stupid line. That we need MORE guns, in this case, armed teachers, to ensure safety. That’s just insane.
Adding more guns into any situation increases the chances for a violent gun death, not reduces it. And even if you don’t necessarily believe that premise, you should know that Newt Gingrich of all people is pushing for teachers to have conceal/carry weapons.
I’m tired about the “thoughts and prayers” line and I’m tired of the “a good guy with a gun is needed to defeat the bad guy with a gun.” You know what? Behind that statement is a premise that a “good with with a gun” is a good thing and will prevent gun violence.
So why, then, does the NRA not let any weapons into its headquarters in Fairfax, VA? I want to be carrying an AR-15 and a concealed handgun and walk into the NRA headquarters and engaged in a spirited policy debate with one of their honchos.
Or better yet, I’d like to walk into one of Paul Ryan’s offices packing heat and engage one of his staff in a spirited debate on public policy issues.
If a “good guy with a gun” = safety, why can’t I carry an AR-15 to meet with Paul Ryan or some hot shot from the NRA? I’m a good guy.
But I can’t.
I can’t because the NRA and their collection of Republican sycophants know that putting a gun in their building or office increases the chances of someone dying because of it. So they will afford themselves of a safer environment, but your children? They are perfectly okay with letting them die.
It’s unconscionable.
What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. If it’s safer for NRA honchos and Paul Ryan to have an environment with no guns, our children deserve the same benefit. But you know what? You and I deserve the same benefit as well. If guns have no place at NRA Headquarters, they have no place in our schools, our neighborhoods, our towns, and our society.
It’s not background checks. It’s not mental illness. It’s the guns.
I refuse to throw out that line about how I “respect the Second Amendment.” Because this group of dotards has polluted its original meaning and turned our country into a killing zone.
Democrat or Republican, if you don’t seek to eliminate the guns flooding our streets and killing our children, I will donate to an opponent and I will actively campaign against you.
