I was suprised at the limited interest in a comprehensive effort to brainstorm a slogan for the DNC. This is a great opportunity to "frame" the discussion and stake out a national position. It is especially important given the types of diaries that we are seeing this week concerning the Bush Administration's stand on NSA spying, pre-emptive war, secrecy, tax cuts, etc. and Finegold's censure resolution.
From my perspective, a slogan should have the following characteristics. It must be broad enough to speak to all issues -- current and forseeable -- and it must inspire hope that there can be a better future. Therefore, I offer the following as my contribution to the discussion:
"Defending your right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness"
Beware, if adopted, this slogan is a real "double-edged" sword. Don't use it if you are not going to defend these rights, as defined in the Declaration of Independence.
What are your suggestions?
