If it's a retrospective you want -- favorite segments, notably notable moments (since just about everything Colbert is notable, yes?), world-changers and jaw-dropping silliness and jaw-droppingly silly world-changers-- google will find you lots of those out there (and Colbertnewshub is on the job, as always). Sure, I've got favorite moments (and yes, I have spent maybe a bit too much time watching old clips), but my favorite thing about the Report has always been, well, the meta.

My immediate financial crisis is resolving (though, um, donations always accepted), but I still need a job. It's been suggested that I try for a paying spot in online moderation -- those poor souls who wade through facebook pages and the like, deleting spam. Not necessarily the highest aspiration I've ever had, but it's legit work-from-home, and would keep Con Ed and the cat fed.

But: I need a resume/cv and some references. Thanks to the health thing I haven't "work' worked for way too long, but I have been blogging regularly for ages. So I've free-associated this:

2004-current blogger; ran Daily
Show/Colbert Report liveblog/fansite on major political blog (7-ish years 4 days/week) (associated twitter account 756 followers),

currently (since July) developing/maintaining music fansite (tumblr/twitter/youtube/instagram) (tumblr 700+ follows)

Content creation (research & write text posts, some photoshop) to deadline; community development/moderation; light coding (html/css);

Suggestions, anyone? Stuff to add, subtract, phrase better...?

Not too late to give thanks, is it?

by TiaRachel

It's so embarrassing to have to ask for help, especially when there's money involved. And it's more than a bit overwhelming to actually receive it.

About two weeks ago now, my bill-juggling failed & my electric was cut off. I got it turned back on with the promise of a check that I knew would bounce, but I figured since they always re-submit at least once, that'd be another week of lights and heat...

(And then I had to wait for the truck to come back to flip a switch, though it turns out the truck also had to be here between 8 & 4:30, when the lives-free-on-site building manager deems it suitable to attend to such petty details. Also turns out he'd ignored their first phone call, which was something less than a half hour past the time the lights went out. But that's a whole 'nother set of issues.)

So I sucked it up & posted...

So. Um. I need some help.

by TiaRachel

Various kinds, actually, but $$ is the big one (isn't it always?).

Backdrop: I've got an assortment of health problems (fibromyalgia, chronic migraine, autism-related anxiety, depression, etc...). I was getting worker's comp (long story), but they started requiring me to look for 'appropriate' work, but define 'appropriate' as related to that one specific problem, not all the others. I just don't have the spoons to do customer service/retail, especially for what it pays.

So A) I need leads to work I can mostly or entirely do from home, probably writing/science related (but not journalism), which pays in more than $5 or even $20 per assignment. And something that doesn't require me to hustle for each micro-job. I can also code a little, & could probably pick up some programming given the breathing space & a carrot at the end. (I could probably also do some sort of social media work, or something activism-related that isn't predominantly interactive. Dealing with people is one of those autism-related problems I've got -- I can do it when prepared, but not routinely. hence no retail/customer service). And of course the kind of thing I was doing with the Daily Show/Colbert diaries, when I was doing them: gathering lots of info and summarizing it into a brief narrative (with more time than I usually gave myself for those posts, I can even polish it up. So proofreading/editing/etc might be a possibility, too).

And B) my home electric's been cut off. Long boring story about how it got that far, but I need $1,9-something to get it turned on again. (Well, actually  I gave them my checking account to get things started, but it's still off two days later -- and i don't have one thousand nine hundred something in the account.)

Similar story with my phone/internet, though that's not as close to failure. That's still in the several-hundreds range somewhere Also my car insurance, though I've been with them for long enough without problems that I've got breathing space there. Still have to come up with another couple hundred by the end of January, though.

So. I'll hang around in comments for as long as this charge holds, & stop by later when I'm at starbucks or wherever, recharging (Cause in these long, dark nights, I need my audiobooks/candycrush!)

And it'd be paypal gifts at tiarachelgordon@gmail.com.

I just got this email from the Autistic Self Advocacy Network (ASAN)

Tomorrow, the House Energy & Commerce Health Subcommittee will be taking a step to advance H.R. 4631, which would reauthorize the Combating Autism Act. The current version of the bill continues to exclude autistic people from the federal committee that oversees autism research (the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee), continues the use of offensive language and politicizes appointments to the IACC.

Call your Member of Congress today at the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 to say that we want real reforms. The operator will be able to use your zip code to connect you with your Representative.

Have a very lefty christmas!

by TiaRachel

Caught a bit of 'do they know it's christmas' earlier today, fumed the whole way through (so very, very many things wrong with that song). And then I had do do some running around, and somehow the radio in my car always plays better music than the one in the house. Yes, it's the same station. Haven't figured that out yet. Anyway, so this came on:

Barenaked Ladies - Elf's Lament
(essentially: the elves need a union)

And so a Christmas Eve Fluff diary was conceived! Below the fold, a handful of lefty-ish, political-ish christmas songs.

It's catkin's mom,

This was Catkin. Lost her at 20, six-ish years ago.

& right now I've got some old lego star wars toys up, a Superman & a Sandman statue, and all five audiobooks (on tape, alas) of Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising series. Shortly to be added: a bunch of cat scratchers, varied & assorted Terry Pratchett audiobooks (on CD, tape, & mp3 CD).
