I have lived in Tennessee for most of my life and although I am a proud East Tennessean, the politics of this state have been embarrassing for a long time. That said, this past month has been a HOLD MY BEER kind of moment for this state’s embarrassment.
First, we became the first state to ban Drag Queen performances. Not for kids or story hour or any of that other ginned up controversy. Banned for all adults. Somehow this doesn’t seem to offend all the yeller license plate Don’t Tread on Me tough guys but that’s a different post altogether.
Second, it turns out the Governor who signed this bill into law enjoys dressing drag himself. Drag for me but not for thee.
Now yesterday we find out that the Lt Governor of the state, Senator Randy McNally, who helped spearhead the drag queen ban, the outlaw of gender affirmation care for minors and a slew of other anti-LGBTQ bills, is living a second life as a male thirst trap addict. I could care less about the personal online habits of a 79 year old state senator but when he’s making life miserable for so many vulnerable groups in this state, then he needs to be called out.
In the meantime, let’s sit back and pass the popcorn. The Dem party in this state hasn’t been relevant in over a decade. Maybe this LOL level of hypocrisy will give them the opening they need to ask Tennesseans to give them a second look. Si Se Puede!
