Of all the reasons given for the Iraq invasion the two remaining rationales I hear cited most often are: 1. spreading the seeds of democracy to the mideast ; 2. the flypaper theory ("it's better to fight them there than to fight them here in the streets").
A new book entitled "Dying to Win" written by Robert Pape, an Associate Professor of the University of Chicago, directly addresses the issue of suicide terrorism which has tremendous implications for undermining the validity of both of these justifications for invasion and occupation.
The website "truthout" has an informative interview with Dr. Pape by Scott McConnell of "The American Conservative". It is eye opening. It is the epitome of reality-based data collection, reduction, and subsequent reasoning. After reading this missive, what is the take home message for me? We need to get our troops off the Arabian Peninsula as fast as possible!
See if you agree.
