I’ve been meaning to read Howard Zinn’s book, “A People’s History of the United States” for a long time but never had the chance. Tune In Radio had a free premium trial for audiobooks and this was my chance. I’ve gone through thirteen chapters and just get more pissed off by the chapter. But why? Because we are the closest to change the dynamics of the capitalist class or the 1 percent ruling us for the first time in a long time.
Let me start by saying that Bernie Sanders is not the end of the story win or lose. The real story is the way that every single thing that ails us is the 1 percent. Why did Columbus come to these shores? The insatiable thirst for gold. Why were the Native Americans crushed? Greed for their lands and all the natural resources this land had. Why were slaves brought here? For cheap labor to enable the rich landowners of the South and elsewhere to become even richer. War’s? Fought for corporations. Strikes fought for the working class? Crushed by the rich and the ruling class.
I know that various front pagers who I respect greatly are on Hillary’s side. However, I feel that Bernie is our best chance to win. Is he perfect? No, certainly not. Are any of us? Hillary sure isn’t. I believe that the Trump candidacy is not a joke and we certainly have to worry about it. But one almost starts to wonder if this fool has been selected for Hillary to scare us into voting for her. How can it be that a person this rich has been given so much free air time while the candidate that has to raise money from us 99 % has to pay and pay so much and still doesn’t get anywhere near,(if any) of the free time? Is it designed that way so that we can get discouraged?
I voted for Barack Obama for one reason only in 2008. It wasn’t because he would be the first African American president although that was very much on my mind. It was because he was a Constitutional Law Professor and quite apparently the smartest of any candidate’s I’d ever seen. I believe that his record has certainly proved that. Was he perfect? No. Did he get a lot done? With the amount of obstruction he faced he sure did! But he threw single payer, card check for unions, and the prosecutions of war and financial criminals were thrown under the bus.
With Bernie, I think he has the wisdom that Hillary really does not. I also believe he is really very smart. When people are hiring someone they look at a resume. These two people have great resumes. However, only one has the proven track record, (per C-Span) of seeing things unfold before they happen. They both listened to the same spiel from the Bush Administration but only one got the vote right. He also happened to describe in great detail what would would happen after Bush got his war. He has the the right attitude which to me is the most important thing when you hire someone.
No president is perfect nor do I expect them to be. But is it too much to ask that for once, that they be on our side? In Bernie’s case, I sincerely feel that he is and will fight for us. This election proves it. Will I vote for Hillary? Yes, but I feel that this is why Trump is the opponent. He scares the shit out of me. Forgive me though if I feel a bit of a head fake there.
