Would you call a gay man using a word with bad connotations even if the dictionary’s definition shows that is not bad? Would you call a transgender person using a demeaning word even if a dictionary definition is ok?
The gay marriage was opposed by bigots with dictionaries in one hand and the bible on the other. Would you have opposed the gay marriage because the dictionary definition of marriage was different? What did you think of the people that were doing this?
If you would not do any of the above then why on earth are you calling the emigrant detention centers “concentration camps” ? After the atrocities made by the nazi and the communists the term “concentration camp” has special connotation associated with huge suffering and huge pain. After the communist and the nazis “the concentration camp” got a new definition. And a certain sanctity...
There are many persons who feel that their heritage and their relatives’ pain and sufferings are demeaned and disrespected if one associates the emigrants detention centers with concentration camps. Don’t do it. Please stop!!!!
My grandfather died in a concentration camp in Communist Romania. They took him in the middle of the night and they’ve beat him and worked him until the strong, full of life man was broken (less than 3 months)… They released him to die home 2 weeks later. You see… this way the mortality rate in the concentration camp was low.
The emigrant detention centers are not concentration camps. The emigrants detained there can leave or can choose not to come. They are not worked to death, they are not beaten daily…. The millions of people who got into the concentration camps had no choice… They were hunted and destroyed on an industrial scale with industrial methods.
I and many many good people of this planet feel offended and feel that our ancestors are disrespected when one uses the equality between “concentration camps” and “emigrant detention centers”. Please stop! We would be grateful.
Emigrant detention centers are bad enough. You can make your point even better if you do not use offending, demeaning and distressing analogies.
Thank you!
