This is my first diary on the Kos. I apologize for it being a personal rant.
In recent decades, I been very active on Facebook. Two days ago my Facebook account was hacked. I have been unable to retrieve it; the culprit changed the email associated with it and the phone number, and Facebook support has been utterly useless in helping me to retrieve it. People who were recommended to help were scammers. It seems today that the hacker has deleted the account altogether, which means my losing an enormous number of personal memories, posts and contacts. I have wasted two days doing little else but being run in circles by FB’s utterly opaque support options. (There are no humans available.)
I have decided to give up. I hate that. But Facebook offers no opportunity to explain the circumstances; the “help” for hacked accounts allows no way to provide alternative means to be contacted. They continued to offer to send a code to the compromised email to which I have no access. One is sent in circles, and there is not way to break the cycle. I have been through all the advice that Google searches can provide, to no avail, and I have been scammed by “fixers” on both Facebook and Instagram.
This is hard, for I have valued Facebook for the ability to stay in contact with many friends from the many decades of my life. I will find ways to reach out to many of them, but what I have lost is precious and makes me sad.
Clearly, Facebook regards its users as commodities; we are offered no meaningful or helpful support. Damn their eyes!
