Although it often seems like changing the status quo is a never ending slog of two steps forward and one step back it behooves us on occasion to stop and see the mileage we've made, to appreciate our movement, the people who've inspired us, the great courageous and brave actions taken by people in the region both Palestinians and Israelis, those in the diaspora and our supporters from all walks of life.
UPDATE: Former EU leaders sign letter urging creation of state with East Jerusalem as capital and settlement freeze. check below
The Washington Post reports today about a trial taking place at a tiny military courtroom at Ofer Military Base in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
"Diplomats from Britain, Germany, France, Denmark, Belgium, Spain, Malta and an EU representative watched as Abu Rahmeh was led into the courtroom, wearing a brown prison uniform. A guard removed his handcuffs, but not his leg shackles. Abu Rahmeh smiled shyly at his wife, Majda."
The group Young Jewish and Proud that launched a counter-protest at the 2010 Jewish Federation General Assembly in New Orleans has just released their video after staying up til the wee hours editing. For background on this group and their protest please read Soysauce's excellent diary from yesterday appropriately titled Young, Jewish and Proud.
Hold onto your hats!
Here it is folks. It took all of 3 hours to completely raze the village of al-Arakib. Previously home to 300 people.
This is huge folks. I am totally completely abundantly amazingly thrilled with J Street!
J Street is calling on the U.S. Treasury Department to launch an investigation into whether American charities that fund Israeli settlement activity have broken the law. A recent New York Times report revealed a connection between an American organization that fundraises for Israeli political activity and "a former executive director of the banned Israeli political party Kahane Chai." Kahane Chai was designated a terrorist organization by the United States in 1994.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat has just pushed thru plans to build The King's Garden in the heart of East Jerusalem, the Arab neighborhood of Silwan.
From Bradley Burston's Tea Party Jews: Betraying U.S. and Israel at the same time
Barkat this week leaned on his diplomatic Murderers Incorporated, the Jerusalem Planning and Building Commission, to approve the razing of 22 Arab homes in the tinderbox neighborhood of Silwan, just south of the Old City walls, in order to make way for The King's Park, a pointed reference to the assertive if at times amoral David of the Jews.

Good Morning and Merry Christmas. May your day be cheery and bright. I'll be heading off to join my family celebrations shortly but my heart is with those heading off to Cairo to join in the Gaza Freedom March. It was with warmth and solidarity I read an excellent Op Ed by Christopher Dickey in Newsweek this morning.
But given that it's Barack Obama who's president of the United States, the Jesus question has a relevance today it wouldn't have had even a year ago. No, Obama is not the messiah. I'm not saying that. But Obama actually uses the word love in a way that Jesus would have understood. So while the question of what Christ might do in today's Holy Land is hypothetical, the question of what Obama will do is not. And some of his most cherished ideas about peace, love, and understanding could be put to the test Dec. 31 when activists are hoping to stage a massive Gaza Freedom March.
With the heady title With Ban Ki-Moot Mute, Obama's US Nixes Gaza Investigation Cite in UN Council Inner City press teases us the only UN investigation into the recent bombardment of Gaza may come from Israel itself.
As Richard Falk, UN investigator and professor emeritus of international law at Princeton sees evidence of war crimes in Gaza and asserts "International law, does not give Israel the legal foundation for claiming self-defense,", once again the US thwarts investigations at the UN.
