WineRev’s Good and Goofy Notes
Watch for WineRev’s G&G notes in the comments to see what others went through, struggled with, and surmounted in the past. His G&G comments are mini Good News Roundups. You can find all his comments here, even today’s, once he posts it. Tech Tip: You can search for >>> in Roundups to quickly find his comments.
WineRev, last Sunday, October 22, 2023:
In another hour or so the dawn will break over the Central Time Zone, but those of you arriving already at the Gnuville Breakfast Brunch and Dawn Watching Club already knew that. Club members casually pick owl feathers out of their radiator grille in the parking lot, greet each other by pocket penlight or smartphone set on “Flashlight Mode” with either a Not-a-Morning-Person grunt, OR a bubbly, hand-shaking, rapid-chatter burst of excitement that 5:11am came AGAIN…..TODAY…..and (Musical notation: accelerando prestissimo…. IOW, get to the sentence ending punctuation, out loud, in less than 2.5 seconds from….NOW!) isn’t it great to be alive, up and around and dressed and ready to face the day with energy and excitement!!????
(BTW, this last is how the Dawn Watching Club greet arriving members of the Bird Watching Club, although you can be a member of both.)
Coffee, tea, mocha-cocoa are widespread and hot and all gratefully received, while the Mimosa Bar partakers sip in the bubbles under the fruit juice to start their blood circulation for the day. When the bubbles clear from their eyes, the Mimosans and others can see 2thanks has launched out Sunday Good News Round Up. Stories, pix, links, comments, questions, more links, digressions and “where did THAT comment come from?” moments are all upon you, thanks to 2thanks, and, well,……..we wouldn’t have it any other way. So from my pajamas to your robe: cheers, and let the Good News Roll!

LymeDisease.org: BREAKING NEWS! In a change of language from the past, the CDC now puts Borrelia (#LymeDisease) on a list of "disease agents that have been linked to chronic symptoms."
What are the implications of this?

From the linked article:
Dorothy Kupcha Leland, LymeDisease.org:
A new page on the CDC website is headlined Chronic Symptoms Following Infections.
It goes on to say: “Infections can sometimes leave people with symptoms that last for weeks to months or longer, even after appropriate treatment.”
(I quibble with their use of “appropriate.” But I’ll leave that alone for now.)
Welcome news for me. Due to my wife’s chronic illness (myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome) and our participation in a local support group, we know people with Lyme disease. She’s been diagnosed with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome:
Centers for Disease Control (CDC):
Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) is a serious, long-term illness that affects many body systems. People with ME/CFS are often not able to do their usual activities. At times, ME/CFS may confine them to bed. People with ME/CFS have severe fatigue and sleep problems. ME/CFS may get worse after people with the illness try to do as much as they want or need to do. This symptom is called post-exertional malaise (PEM). Other symptoms can include problems with thinking and concentrating, pain, and dizziness.
According to an Institute of Medicine (IOM) report, an estimated 836,000 to 2.5 million Americans suffer from ME/CFS. However, most of them have not been diagnosed.
Please share good science news with us!
(Especially JSWT, health, environment.)
A good place to look for science news if you are waiting for the Sunday Roundup is the archive of Overnight News Digest. On Saturdays, the OND always focuses on science, though not all of it is devoted to what I would call Good Science News.
Need more good news?
… arhpdx posted a list of good news sites toward the top of a recent Roundup, or you can find that same list in my comment: Good News Sources. Thank you, arhpdx and Mokurai!

You can use the map’s zoom arrows to resize the view and focus on your pin to find neighbors. Please note that the Google Map, though convenient to operate, is visually inaccurate because, among other issues, it enlarges North America and shrinks Africa [Maps present a distorted view of the world by kos].

Tech Talk for Kosacks
- Load-More Workaround: On a desktop or laptop, to banish the Daily Kos Load More buttons, click this link, which opens the main Daily Kos page and shuts off the Load More buttons at the same time. You must Reload any open Daily Kos pages. After that, you’re good to go, but you may need to come back here and click that link again in a few weeks. According to the DK Help Desk, the “Load More” option also resets the user back to the display of the old-style, React comments.

Our Roundup is almost open!
Thank you for fighting for truth and justice with all us Gnusies! 40% of our Readers don’t visit every day, 50% of us do, and 10% are here for the first time! We all do what we can. For 5 years, we’ve shared positive news, laughed, organized, resisted, rebelled, revolted without being revolting, relied, rested, mentored, created, crossed rivers, chewed our cud, puffed methane out both ends, and laughed. Here’s looking at you, kid, and standing upwind!
As always, please share more Good News than I can find or provide.
This is a group diary, and by my power I declare this Good Gnus Salo(o)n open! Let the good-news sharing and community building begin!
Power with, not power over ❤️ ✊ ❤️
2thanks (he, him)
