Is it just my imagination? Or are the movies getting really, really scary, these days. I mean like ...too scary. Wrong Turn. Wolf Creek. House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects. Saw. Chaos, fer pete's sake, which is as vicious a piece of celluloid as anybody should ever be allowed to max out their credits cards to make. Even Open Water. Add to these, remakes of The Last House on the Left, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and The Hills Have Eyes.
The last time scary movies were this scary was back in the '70s. Which got me to thinking. What's going on here? Why are all of these gruesome horror flicks showing up at this particular moment in time? As in the '70s, the zeitgeist is howling boooooo, again, and scaring the shite out of us. But why?
C'mon, everybody, drive on down below the fold. Pull your friends out of the trunk, and crank the ragtop down. Clamp some speakers onto your door, and let's go get some popcorn. It's almost dark, and the movie's about to begin.
