I tried for the last time to watch morning Joe on MSNBC this morning. The dependable list of GOP talking points, phony populism and manufactured right-wing outrage is no longer tolerable. This morning attacks on Panetta and Letterman were featured. I have taken the morning Joe pledge before but this time I am staying on the wagon.
Moreover, I have decided, painfully, not to buy any more Starbucks products, even ~sigh~ the vanilla scones, while Starbucks remains a primary sponsor of this daily polemic. I wrote to Starbucks and let them know I have made this decision because I don't want my money spent to support this kind of programming or the resurrection of the political career of the distasteful Mr. Scarborough.
I don't know if boycotts work but I imagine my letter to Starbucks will at least be noticed and counted. When direct political influence has been bought and paid for by corporate interests the public must use all the moral means at our disposal to influence public policy. The money I save providing my own caffeine fix I will put toward supporting a true advocate for single payer healthcare reform in this country. It is what I can do this morning.
