Today (8/25) a short blurb in my local paper (www.delcotimes.com) reports that Rep Bernie O'Neil (R-PA) has backtracked on his story that he was a victim of Voter ID fraud. Last June, in a floor debate, he reported to colleagues that his identity was stolen and that "someone hade voted for me". He now says the story was "inaccurate", and that it was a case of "human error".
AFAIK his apology is too little, to late. He should get a lot more publicity - and derision - for his statements, especially since he didin't even have the cojones to vote for final passage of the PA Voter ID Bill. At least we have another chance in the PA court on September 13th to stop the law from taking effect...
I've knocked on over 3000 doors since the PA Primaries, and called thousands more on the phone, as I work to elect a local Dem candidate to the PA House (Jeremy Fearn, a close friend and neighbor.) One of his positions is overturning the PA Voter ID law. And we won't be stopping after the election in November - we're going to continue to build up a Democratic structure in Delaware County, and work to overturn what has become a Republican dictatorship.
We support and canvass for ALL good Democrats in our area; George Badey (for 7th Cong. Dist); Sheamus Bonner, Larry DeMarco and Beth Aloise (PA House) among them. And President Obama - you can be damned sure we've got your back as well.
Don't let the anger you may feel sap your will. Stay focused, and stay active my friends. Find a worthy, Progressive, DEMOCRATIC candidate; sacrifice your time, effort, fortune in his or her cause. Some of us in this country are fighting for our very Constitutional freedoms - the right to vote, the right to control our bodies, the right to freely associate with others and practice (or not practice) the religion of our choice, the right to protest and petition our government.
This is the most important election of your lifetime; don't sit on the sidelines.
