McChrystal's strategy calls for 500,000 troops for five years. 150,000 of those troops are NATO, and about 100,000 of those are US soldiers.
Where do the other 350,000 combat soldiers come from? Afghanistan. Oh. Sure. What motivates an Afghan to become a soldier and fight in his own civil war? A corrupt government? A foreign occupier? Money? Yes, money will motivate some to become soldiers, but will they earn their money?
In eight years, we’ve trained about 90,000 troops, 60,000 of which can be found on a given day. So we’ve added 11,000 soldiers to the ranks each year for eight years. We’re 260,000 soldiers short, and at 11,000 a year, that’ll take... too long.
