Last week there was a post here that everyone should send letters to the editor and try to get them published, the thought being that more people read those than read actual editorials. So, for the first time ever I sent something to the local newspaper. For me it was scary, but I did it. Well, to my surprise when I opened the paper this morning my letter was there. Here is my letter:
"I want to express my appreciation for your thoughtful, comprehensive, and balanced article on the Swift Boat Veterans political ads in today's paper. This kind of coverage is the reason I prefer to get my news from the KC Star rather than the cable news networks.
Meanwhile back in Iraq, remember that war, our boys continue to die and be maimed. Today when I looked for the war coverage I found a list of 19 military deaths on page 25 and a short piece on Iraq on page 26. Compare that to the inches of coverage given to the SBV story.
Why is the press obsessing over something that happened 35 years ago while our boys are coming home in body bags? Why are they allowing the worst kind of dirty politics to successfully draw attention away from Iraq, the economy, and any thoughtful evaluation of the performance of our current president? Those are the real issues that face each and every one of us as we make our decision on whom to vote for this November."
Thank you Kos community for giving me the courage to become more than just a political junkie, and to actually try to make a small difference.
