My wonderful wife, Karen, will never be in a viral video shaming the human race for being an asshole. If she ever does something that is filmed and goes viral, it will be bad-ass and heroic. She is the nicest person I know. She was laid off from a job providing adult day care to early Alzheimer’s patients because of the freaking Covid-19 and is applying for jobs now. She mentioned using her middle name on applications so employers didn’t think that just because she is middle-aged white woman that she is also an insane racist because of her name -- and surprisingly, more than a few people agreed she should.
I guess my question is this: Have any of the women in the so-called “Karen” videos actually been named Karen? The woman who called police on the barbecue in Berkeley was Jennifer. The woman who called the cops on the bird-watcher in Central Park was Amy. The mustard stained shirt woman pointing a gun at BLM protesters in front of her mansion in St. Louis was Patricia. The woman who berates Asians in Torrance,CA is Lena. The woman who went nuts on a vendor for passing out Pride flags at a farmer’s market in Livermore, CA is Gail. The police-woman in GA tearfully victimized by an imperfect order at McDonald’s was Stacy. And so on, and so on… (and, how about all the asshole men doing the exact same things? None of them are named Karen, I’m sure).
In any event, the horror of watching these female (and male) assholes on youtube disrespect innocents, being racists and standing up for their God-given rights to wave guns and not wear masks hurts just a little bit more when I see the term “Karen” thrown out and the wincing of my wife, an actual Karen and actual good person. So, can’t we just call these assholes by their actual names and define them by their actual actions?
