I sit here feeling unsettled, I have just finished reading the posts generated by a message board to which I subscribe. The group is mainly spiritual devout people of all religions who share information. So I was suprised at the venom of todays topic.
It started simply as a man offering a class. The class has a cost. One person replied that they would like to come but could not at the moment afford it due to economic conditions. She hoped he would offer it again someday. This simple statement set off a huge fight. One side feeling that the cost of the class should be less and/or scholarships should be offered. The other side thinking that if the person really wanted to attend they should be able to find a way and if they couldn't they were somehow unworthy of being there. These are people that have a goal to be like Budda, Jesus, Gandi, The Dalai Lama, or any number of the other highly spiritual people that they admire.
I have been seeing alot of this lately, a meanness of spirit that seems to be weaving itself into the fabric of our country. Even those that are normally open minded, accepting and peaceful seem to be falling into the trap. We are dividing ourselves.
