Acting governor Richard Codey is the top choice of NJ voters to replace Jon Corzine. 43% of those polled selected him with Bob Menendez next highest at 14%. Codey leads Tom Kean, Jr. by 23% in a hypothetical 2006 Senate race!
As far as other potential Democratic challengers, Menendez leads Kean, Jr. by 2%, while Frank Pallone is tied and Rob Andrews trails by 1%.
I would love to chalk NJ up as a safe Senate seat in 2006. If that happens, we will really only need to worry about losing Minnesota (which is still fairly unlikely) and we can afford to be really aggressive in going after GOP incumbents. I have also read that Richard Codey is a fairly progressive Democrat. Anyone have thoughts or updates on what's going on in NJ?
