Last night I went to a MoveOn Desserts party. Afterwards, I spoke with a young man about the effectiveness of the phone banking plans. He and others like him did not have landlines and didn't answer calls from unknown people. However, he does answer calls from his friends.
When it comes to the Lamont primary, the polls are all over the place on how much of a lead Lamont has. However, it all comes down to getting out the vote. Even if Lamont has a 10% lead, if Lieberman is 20% more effective in getting out the vote, we could see six more years of Lieberman.
So, how do we do make sure we get a good turn out? Well, part of it goes back to the issue of landlines. Every one of us needs to call our five closest friends, and not only make sure they are registered, supporting our candidate, and planning to vote. A lot of people say they will get around to voting, but don't actually make it. We need to invite our friends to come to with us to the polls. We should even plan on some social activity afterwards, like heading over to a bar.
