Does religion have a place in American society?
Without God there is no society
America has been fortunate that we have mostly seen religion used for great good
As long as toleration does not require that one view other religions as equally true; rather, the assumption is that each citizen will grant that others have the right to hold and practice their own beliefs
"The interested and active zeal of religious teachers can be dangerous and troublesome only where there is either but one sect tolerated in the society, or where the whole of a large society is divided into two or three great sects" -Adam Smith
If the American people are so oblivious that they still need a two thousand year old ideology to acknowledge the principles of the common good, then religion has failed miserably
Religion is the root of all evil
