Like many of you, I have spent many a sleepless night contemplating which candidate I support.
Biden is not a very popular choice on this website. But let me make a case for him.
A primary aspect is that I think he would win. Polls show him ahead of the other Dem candidates and also ahead of Trump. Trump engineered the Ukraine scandal specifically to go after BIden. That’s a pretty solid endorsement right there. Trump is so scared of Biden that Trump ends up being impeached.
Biden has something that the other candidates don’t have- a positive national reputation. Biden is well liked by many people across the country and associated with the popular Obama. People trust him as Obama’s wingman, someone with demonstrated experience. Experience is an asset when running against an incumbent. Also Biden has a lot of support from people of color.
Most of the other Democratic candidates are relatively unknown. Certainly readers of this website are very familiar with them, but most people don’t know much about them. Being well known and liked is worth a lot.
As far as being too moderate, I think Biden has pretty good positions on climate change, women’s rights, gun control, workers rights, LGBT rights, and other important issues.
If you want someone more liberal, its Sanders or Warren. I think the heart condition is a big problem for Sanders, although I’m glad that he looks pretty good. And as for Warren, I continue to think that she damaged her campaign when she raised her hand and explained that private insurance would become illegal. There are tens of millions of Americans who get insurance through their workplace, who would oppose that proposal. And thats including millions of Democrats. So Warren has managed to come up with an approach that even many Democrats are not happy with. That is a real feat! She’s walked it back a bit but I am not sure if that works. I’ve come to agree with the position advocated by Buttigieg, Biden, Klobuchar and others… make Obamacare stronger, add public option. That’s a pretty reasonable solution, and though it may not be perfect, if it wins elections, I’m OK with it.
