For the past 7 years the Feds Bureau of Land Management(BLM) have been rounding up protected wild horses to make room for more cattle grazing. This at a cost of over 30 million/year to you. There are now 30,000 wild horses in holding pens and WHAT TO DO?
This question is complicated for the Feds because the American Public has recently shut down the only 3 horse slaughter plants in the US and have clearly spoken. Our tricky Feds are now toying with the idea of giving all these 30,000 wild horses for free to killer buyers. Oh! I mean "adopters" and waiving the 1 year requirement to gain title, effectively allowing these "adopters" to haul these protected wild horses (a re-introduced native specie) to Canada for slaughter!
Other options include, put them back, use PZP dartable non-toxic birth control, utilize these majestic creatures for eco-tourism, even euthanization would be kinder. There are many other humane options. But in fact, they were not over-populating, they were at approx. 64,000 at the start of this 7 yr massive round up, the same number they were at in 1974 when the first count was completed after the 1971 Act was passed.
