After a sleepless night on my part, tending to, comforting, and cleaning up after Chester, we finally got to the doctor.
He's going to be ok, he'll be coming home later this afternoon. He has a very, very bad abscess in his behind, and the infection might be affecting his spinal lesion too, which is why his back end was really uncoordinated and too weak for him to stand up on his own.
In consideration of Chester's pre-existing conditions, the vet wants to go after this in a non-invasive fashion, so no surgery - yay! But this means hands on butt cleaning and debriding the bad tissue for a while - poor, poor Chester, with a return to the vet on Tuesday.
So we've stocked up on latex gloves, white hand towels, bleach, and lots of love and hope cause he's still got lots of things to do, noms to nom, squirrels to gallumph after, and ears to be noogied.
I was expecting the worst, and am vastly relieved about this first hurdle, we'll worry about the secondary symptoms later. But most importantly, he's not in any pain, and should return to a good quality of life when this is over.
