The current hurricane naming (human given names) convention has clearly failed to emphasize the magnitude and urgency regarding these increasingly powerful and devastating storms.
The current alphabetical formula assigning innocent given names such as Ernesto or Katrina wrongly implies a kind of warm return visit by an old friend or family member.
Instead, I propose a simpler system to correctly emphasize the calamity of scope and necessity for intense and concerted mitigation, preparation and response to these storms.
Therefore, I hereby propose that each year/season hurricanes be designated simply by GW1 through GW[n] where n represents the last hurricane in each calendar year. This system IMO most accurately connotes the severity of two calamitous afflictions facing our nation and our planet: 1) Global Warming and 2) George W Bush.
Quite simply, there are names tied to events that should forever live in infamy. And I do not believe that names like Ernesto, et al should -- but that GW must in order that this folly shall never befall our nation again.
